I am doing research for my thesis about the "hazentes" - women who sang cantorial music before women were able to become cantors. Specifically, I am writing about Sophie Kurtzer, Bas Sheva, Perele Feig, Freydele Oysher, Sheindele the Hazente, and the Malavsky Family. Many of these women performed in the Catskills.
